CBD Dog Treats: 10 Wholesome, Homemade Recipes

As part of a healthy daily routine, CBD can help your dog maintain a happy, active lifestyle, and one of the best ways to give CBD to dogs is with a yummy treat.

Homemade CBD dog treats can be baked, raw, or even frozen for hot summer days. Once you know why homemade CBD treats for dogs are the right choice and how much CBD to use in your treats, you can use our recipes or create your own! With plenty of wholesome ingredients to play with, like sweet potato, CBD peanut butter, berries, bananas, and pumpkin, you can create a CBD snack that your pupper is sure to love.

Why Make Your Own CBD Dog Treats?

Making your own CBD dog treats at home has a number of benefits for both you and your pooch. When you make homemade treats rather than buying them at the store, you can:

  • Know exactly what’s in them
  • Control the amount of CBD carefully
  • Enjoy a bonding experience with your pet

There Are No Mystery Ingredients in Homemade Treats

Dog treats offer a portable, quick, and easy way to administer CBD to your pet, but not all store-bought dog treats are created equal. Some might contain ingredients that are harmful to your best bud.

The ingredient list on a dog treat bag can be surprisingly long, and some feature artificial flavors, fillers, or even chemical preservatives that you should avoid. While you can become an educated consumer and find CBD dog treats with wholesome, healthy ingredients, you can also purchase high-quality CBD oil to make your own treats and you never have to wonder about any of the other ingredients being unhealthy for your pet.

Make CBD Treats in the Strength That’s Right for Your Dog

Another obvious benefit of making homemade CBD oil dog treats is that you get complete control over the strength of the treat. This control can be especially great for families with several pets of different sizes who need different amounts of CBD daily. Plus, you can create treats with a lower strength of CBD so you can give more to your pooch every day!

Baking for Your Dog Can Be a Bonding Experience

It’s true what they say about love being the tastiest ingredient. Taking an active role in your pet’s health and wellness by making their treats at home is a caring act that creates a bond between you. You can engage them in the baking process by letting them taste-test as you go!

How Much CBD to Use in Dog Treats

The amount of CBD oil you use in your homemade dog treats will depend on how strong you want them to be, which will depend on your pet’s appropriate daily amount. Consult your veterinarian and the product label to figure out exactly how much CBD oil to use according to your pet’s weight

Treats Don’t Have to Be Equal to the Daily Amount

While you could make each treat the exact daily amount your pet needs, you could also reduce the treat’s strength so you can give them more than once a day. Your pet should consume the same amount of CBD every day for the best wellness support.

Calculating the Strength of a CBD Dog Treat

It can be a very simple equation: the amount of dog treats x strength of dog treat (in milligrams) = total amount of CBD oil to put into the recipe (in milligrams). If you want to make 10 dog treats with 5 mg of CBD each, you’ll need to put 50 mg (10x5) of CBD oil in the batter. Consider using a kitchen scale to weigh out the individual treats so you can ensure they are exactly the same size.

The Best Frozen Dog Treats to Make at Home

Cool your canine on hot summer days with these chilly treats from the fridge or freezer.

Coconut Snowballs

  • 1.5 cups dog-friendly berries (such as strawberries, blueberries, or raspberries), mashed or pureed
  • 4 tbsp melted coconut oil
  • 6 tbsp ground flaxseed
  • ½ cup coconut flour
  • dash of cinnamon
  • CBD oil for dogs (This recipe would be a great fit for our blueberry-flavored calming CBD oil for dogs. Or use peanut butter-flavored regular CBD tincture for a PB&J treat!)
  • Desiccated coconut for coating (optional)

Stir all ingredients together and roll into balls. Depending on how much water is in your choice of berries, you might need to add some extra coconut flour or water to get the right consistency. Roll the balls in the desiccated coconut to coat. Place on a cookie sheet and refrigerate until firm. Store in the fridge for a chilly treat.

Sweet Potato Yogurt Bites

  • ½ cup cooked, mashed sweet potato (Pro tip: wrap a sweet potato in a wet paper towel and microwave for 5-6 minutes, depending on size, for a quick cook!)
  • ¼ cup plain yogurt
  • 1 tsp coconut oil
  • CBD oil

Mix all ingredients in a bowl and place the batter in a mold. Freeze for three hours. (Pro tip: You can get a fancy treat mold in fun shapes, like dog bones, or you can just use an ice tray.)

Blueberry Pup-sicles

Place all the ingredients in a blender then pour the mixture into an ice tray or mold. Make sure the mold you use is an appropriate size for your dog – you don’t want the treats to create the danger of choking, and you don’t want them to be so large that it’s hard for your dog to chew on them. Let the treats freeze for at least six hours – overnight is best.

Our Favorite No-Bake (Raw) Dog Treats with CBD

These recipes are as simple and quick as it gets – with no need to bake and no need to freeze, you’re just minutes away from tasty homemade CBD dog treats.

No-Bake PB Balls

  • ⅔ cup pumpkin puree (Make sure to use plain pumpkin puree and not pumpkin pie filling, which contains way too much sugar for your pooch. You can even make your pumpkin puree by baking a pumpkin in the oven and scooping out the flesh.)
  • ½ cup CBD peanut butter
  • 2 cups oats

This recipe is great for a blender or food processor if you have one, but the ingredients can also just be stirred together. Combine pumpkin, peanut butter, and 1.5 cups oats, and then roll into balls and coat in the remaining oats. Refrigerate until firm and store in the refrigerator.

If you’d rather use regular peanut butter and add CBD oil for dogs to adapt the strength to your needs, that will work fine!

Raw Pumpkin Turmeric CBD Dog Treats

  • 1 cup pumpkin puree (not pumpkin pie filling)
  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 1.5 tablespoons each coconut oil, honey, and turmeric powder
  • Dash of black pepper (Black pepper increases the bioavailability of turmeric’s powerful compounds.)
  • CBD oil for dogs

Stir together the coconut oil, honey, turmeric, pepper, and your chosen amount of CBD oil in a small bowl. Combine this in a larger bowl with the pumpkin and oats. Roll into balls, place on a baking sheet, and refrigerate until firm.

Raw Fruitcake Dog Treats

  • ½ cup oat flour
  • ½ cup dried cranberries (no sugar added)
  • ½ apple, shredded
  • 1 small carrot, shredded
  • 2 tbsp applesauce
  • CBD oil for dogs

Combine all the ingredients together into a dough and shape it into balls. It’s that easy! You might need a little more oat flour or applesauce to get the right consistency.

Our Favorite Baked Treats for Dogs

From your oven with love for Fido! Be sure to let baked treats cool before giving them to your pet. They’ll be so excited that they might burn their tongue on a CBD dog treat fresh from the oven.

PB Banana Baked CBD Dog Treats

  • 2 mashed ripe bananas (about 1 cup mashed banana)
  • ½ cup CBD peanut butter
  • 4 cups oat flour or rolled oats ground up in the blender

Combine all ingredients and bake at 325 degrees for about 25 minutes, depending on the treats’ size. Smaller treats will cook more quickly. You want them to be a nice golden brown.

Nut free pumpkin bacon bites laying on a wooden countertop

Nut-Free Pumpkin Bacon Bites

  • 1 cup whole wheat or all-purpose flour
  • ½ tsp baking powder
  • ¼ cup pumpkin puree
  • 2 tbsp water
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 4 strips cooked bacon, chopped, with grease (cooled)
  • CBD for dogs

Mix all ingredients well. Roll out dough to a quarter-inch thickness and cut it into shapes using a cutter or the rim of a glass. Place on a parchment-lined baking sheet, bake at 350 degrees for 15 minutes, then flip the treats and bake for another 15 or so, depending on the size.

Pumpkin Oatmeal CBD Dog Cookie

  • 1.5 cups quick oats
  • ½ cup pureed pumpkin (not pumpkin pie filling!)
  • ¼ cup CBD peanut butter for dogs
  • ½ tbsp melted coconut oil
  • ½ cup no-sodium beef broth

Mix together all ingredients in a bowl. If the mixture seems crumbly, add more beef broth. If it seems too wet, add more oats. It should have a cookie-dough consistency. Scoop out tablespoon-sized balls onto a parchment-lined baking sheet. Bake at 325 degrees for 20 to 40 minutes, depending on how crispy you want the cookies to be. You can also dot these cookies with bites of kibble to make them look like chocolate chips!

Autumn Apple Dog Treats

  • 2 cups peeled and diced apple
  • 4 cups flour
  • 1.5 cups quick oats
  • 1 tsp each cinnamon and salt
  • 4 large eggs, whisked together
  • ¼ cup CBD peanut butter for dogs

Toss the apples with the dry ingredients (flour, oats, cinnamon, and salt). Then add the eggs and peanut butter and mix well. If it’s too crumbly, add a little bit of water slowly until the mixture comes together like a dough. You can roll the dough into equal-sized balls, or roll the dough out to about a quarter-inch thickness and use cookie cutters to cut out shapes. Place the cookies on a parchment-lined baking sheet and bake at 350 degrees for about 30 minutes. Always let the cookies cool before giving your pooch a taste!
